Lucent AOU24-DI-24 - 24dBi Grid Dish Antenna

Software:
Mac OS X Tiger
KisMAC 0.2a R115

Part 2 - Helix Antenna - Project Terminated
Instructions

Part 1

The Test

Scanning for WLAN with the Powerbook using the built-in antenna at the outskirts of Härnösand

Scanning for WLAN with the using the bigger antenna at the same place

Update the same evening...

Scanning for WLAN in Härnösand, Vårdkasberget

Update
19/11 2005

Scanning for WLAN at night in Sundsvall, Norra Berget(The North Mountain)
A long list, 169 WLAN were found right away, did not need to move the antenna that much.

You can get free Internet Connection very easy here. I tested a few networks on the list and I got connected.

Update 01/04 2006

This time we sat out just to have some fun. -5 degrees and lots of snow, where is the spring? It's April for crying out load. Anyway, Vårdkasen once again. Trying out a new alpha of KisMac and testing the use of Ethereal.

Part 2 - Building an Helix Antenna

Instructions from http://helix.remco.tk/

Update 01/04 2006
Project Terminated...

We terminated the building of the Helix antenna after we bought the necessary parts. But it is very cheap to build it. About 100SEK for a 3 meters plastic pipe and 30x30x0.5cm metal, plus the costs for the cables and connectors.

The problem with helix antenna and communication to regular wlan-antennas is that helix antennas are polar inverted. The E-fields is inverted. So for a good result you will have to use two helix antennas.
